My early childhood was spent on the
edge between the Badlands and the Black Hills of South Dakota. The spacious horizons, geology, and culture
of that region formed a love of creation and the western lifestyle. Additional time spent living in Colorado and
Wyoming deepened my love for the animals and rugged places of the West. Engaging often in the outdoors created a
desire in me to portray what I was seeing.
My travels have taken me to a range of spectacular beauty from the Grand
Canyon, Black Canyon, Yosemite, the Canadian Rockies, and to the Pacific
Northwest. All these regions inspire me
to call one’s notice again to their grandeur as
well as the western lifestyle in rodeos, roundups, and local county 4-H
activities.
My works are wide-open windows into
the mystery and intrigue contained in life’s ordinary moments. Going beyond what we take for granted, I like
to delve into the “more-than-meets-the-eye” of life. While creating my art, I seek to capture the
greatness of life in the moments, to focus on the ordinary in order to see that
all of life is sacred. I love to deepen
appreciation for what is true and beautiful in the world. I am challenged to look and look again…to see
what’s really there. I hope to entice
the viewer to enjoy that second, deeper look.
